Mavis Harrell House, 87, of Emerald Isle, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 12, 2025, at her home with family members by her side. She peacefully joined her Heavenly Father in glory for her eternal home in heaven.
There will be a special day for visitation on Tuesday, June 17th for those who are able to join the family at 7026 Emerald Drive, Emerald Isle, NC.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2 p.m., on June 18th at the Crystal Coast Worship Center, 1101 Salter Path Road, Salter Path, NC. The family invites you to join them for a reception and time of fellowship following the service. To honor Mavis’ vibrant spirit through the years, the family asks that those attending the Celebration of Life Service please wear bright colors if you have them as that is what Mavis loved. For those unable to attend, the service can be viewed through her obituary page on Munden Funeral Home’s website. The service will remain on the Funeral Home website for 90 days.
Mavis' earthly birth began on May 8, 1938, in Edgecombe County, NC, she was the daughter of the late William Henry Harrell and Lena Hopkins Harrell. Following high school, she graduated from Louisburg College in North Carolina, earning a degree in Business.
In her younger years, she worked with a local Radio Station providing duties for Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable and all other Secretarial duties. Most notably, she spent a significant portion of her career as an Administrative Assistant at Carolina Telephone, retiring at the age of 60.
Mavis is currently a member of the Crystal Coast Worship Center Pentecostal Holiness Church in Salter Path, NC. She has been a member of other Churches during her lifetime as well and gave her heart to the Lord at a very young age. She had held many positions in the Churches such as Women's Ministry President, Pianist, Organist, Youth Leadership, and Choir Director, along with other positions.
While Church was always her priority, other things she enjoyed were skating, playing softball, watching baseball, fishing, traveling, eating out with family and friends and just enjoying a vibrant and fulfilled life.
Mavis is survived by her husband, Milton Stuart House, Jr.; daughter, Patricia H. Savage (Terry); grandchildren, Travis D. Savage, Monica S. Speight (Travis) and Rebecca H. Whitfield (Jonathan); great grandchildren, Landon B. Speight (Haley), Rylan A. Speight, Avery G. Savage, Paisley M. Savage, Lilah G. Whitfield; and the family’s loving golden doodle, Ariel Savage. Also surviving are her brothers-in-law who loved her like a mother, Richard House (Jacque), Junius House (Betty), Berry House, Lonnie House (Evelyn), Mike House (Mary Jo) and Samuel “Pete” House (Stephanie); many beloved nieces and nephews; along with lots of loved extended family members and loved friends which we call family.
In addition to her parents, Mavis was preceded in death by her son, Milton Stuart House, III "Bubba"; sister, Ruby Clary; and brothers, Jake Harrell, Robert "Stump" Harrell, and William Henry "Boot" Harrell.
