Masako Kawai Frigenti, 97, of Morehead City, North Carolina, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, August 11, 2024.
A memorial service to honor Masako’s life will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, August 20th at Munden Funeral Home, presided by Deacon Jim Strange.
Masako was born on January 16, 1927, in Japan, to the late Tetsuji and Chiyoko Kawai. In 1952, Masako ventured to the United States and settled in New York City, where she loved the vibrant city life. Despite never obtaining a driver's license, she cherished her subway rides as they took her to her beloved shopping spots. In 2007, Masako relocated to Morehead City alongside her family.
A dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Masako found fulfillment in her role as a homemaker. She poured her heart into tending her garden, reaping the rewards of her labor with gratitude. Her love language often showed through the delicious meals she lovingly prepared for her family. Nothing brought her more joy than being surrounded by her family, especially her cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Those remaining to cherish her memory are her daughter, Carmen Reid of Morehead City; sister, Hiroko Kawai of Japan; grandchildren, Donald Francis “DJ” Reid Jr., Beth Marie Reid and Kitty Frigenti; and greatgrandchildren, Corbett Reid, Lillian Francis Fowler, and Arielle Brinson.
In addition to her parents, Masako was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Anthony Frigenti; son, Joseph Frigenti; sister, Shigeko Kawai; and brother, Keilchi Kawai.
As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to the Carteret County Humane Society.
Family and friends are welcome to submit online condolences.
