Mary Jane Lane Williams, 98, of Morehead City, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 27, 2025, at Crystal Coast Hospice House.
A memorial service to honor Mary’s life will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, December 31 at First Baptist Church, officiated by Pastor Darrell Williams. The family will receive friends one hour prior. For those unable to attend, the service can be viewed through her obituary page on Munden Funeral Home’s website.
Mary was born on September 4, 1927, in Wheat Swamp, North Carolina, to the late Robert and Ethel Lane. A devoted woman of faith, Mary’s greatest joy was her family, whom she loved deeply and wholeheartedly. She was an avid sports fan and cheered for the Tar Heels and the Wolfpack- loving both equally- as well as her beloved Carolina Panthers.
Mary was a wonderful cook, well known for her delicious butter beans, a favorite that will forever be remembered by those who gathered around her table. She also loved to travel, especially the yearly trips she cherished taking with her brother Norman, memories that made her heart happy. She honorably served her country in the United States Army for 4 years. Following her military service, she dedicated 34 years of faithful employment at Cherry Point, where she later retired after a long and respected career.
Mary was deeply involved in her church, and her Sunday School class held a special place in her heart. As the oldest member of First Baptist Church, her devotion never wavered; even when she was unable to attend in person, she faithfully watched services online and never missed a Sunday. May her strong faith, loving heart, and legacy she leaves behind be treasured forever.
Those remaining to cherish her memory are her daughters, Vivian Marshall (Mike) of Morehead City, N.C., Betty Louise Gower (Todd) of Kenly, N.C., Mary Jane “Janie” Swanson (Ken) of Pomona Park, FL., Carla Elaine Ragan; brother, Norman Franklin Lane of Raleigh, N.C.; grandchildren, Gary Stover, Matthew Marshall, Madison Marshall Watford, Crystal Walker, Pam Williams, Will Williams, Lee Williams, Jessica Sundstrom, Hannah Sundstrom, Joshua Ragan; and great grandchildren, Declan Watford, Dougie Watford, Pearl Watford, and Emily Williams.
In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her brothers, Cecil Lane, Jack Lane, Robert Lane, and Larry Lane.
Flowers are welcome or donations may be made to Crystal Coast Hospice House, P.O. Box 640, Newport, N.C. or First Baptist Church, 810 Bridges Street, Morehead City, N.C. 28557.
