Obituary

Mary Way Huffstetler, 75, of Cape Carteret, North Carolina, passed away on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, at Carteret Health Care.

Mary will be laid to rest privately at Bethlehem Methodist Church Cemetery in Bogue.

Born on February 28, 1951, in Saline, Michigan, Mary was the beloved daughter of the late Clair Ivan Gilbert and Laoma M. Gilbert.

Mary's faith was the foundation of her life. She loved the Lord wholeheartedly and was a devoted member of Bethlehem Methodist Church.

Gifted with a creative spirit, Mary found joy in expressing herself through writing and was a talented seamstress who lovingly crafted countless projects by hand. She also enjoyed the simple pleasures of making homemade jellies and jams, often sharing them with family and friends. An adventurous soul, Mary loved camping and took advantage of every opportunity to travel, creating treasured memories along the way.

Those remaining to cherish her memory are her sons, Scott Way (Carla Thomas) of Cape Carteret, NC, Daniel Way of Hawaii, and Matthew Way of Seattle, WA; sisters, Laura Hall, Barbara Cristoforo, both of Sterling, MI and Marilyn Hunt of Alma, MI; brothers, Harper Gilbert of Alger, MI and Alan Gilbert of Benson, NC; and 7 precious grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Delvin Sylvanus Huffstetler.

As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to Bethlehem Methodist Church for the Ramp Ministry, 728 Bogue Loop Road, Bogue, NC 28570.
