Born on March 14, 1949, in Erwin, NC, Elaine was the beloved daughter of the late Civey and Estelle Baker. She was a beautiful Christian woman and as a young adult she attended Kennebec Baptist Church in Angier, NC where she was baptized in Dr. Young's Pond. She was a loving and dedicated wife to her childhood sweetheart, Bunky, for over 57 years. Together, they had two children and three grandchildren. Elaine was happiest when she was doing good deeds and was always willing to lend a hand to those in need. Her love and compassion made everyone feel welcome and wanted.

Elaine’s beautiful smile entered the room before she physically did. Voted most friendly in high school, her laughter was infectious and no matter where she was, she always found something to talk about with anyone that would listen. She was very crafty and creative as seen in all her projects that she spent countless hours drawing and painting. She had a playful nature and a humorously mischievous spirit. She never passed up an opportunity to play a good joke on anyone. She loved to go shopping whether at Walmart or on her TV, where she would order all the great items QVC had to offer. She was always ready to watch the Duke Blue Devil's playing basketball and her grandchildren playing any sport or school activity. Her favorite pastimes were fishing, talking on the phone for hours at a time and going out for ice cream while cruising around town with her granddaughters. Known for her spontaneous spirit, she never hesitated to join in for a last-minute trip going anywhere. And of course, her sidekick, her dog Ava, was always by her side to put a smile on her face.

Elaine was an amazing cook. She enjoyed making delicious meals for her loved ones including her amazing fried chicken, potato salad and her special secret recipe chocolate cake. More than anything, Elaine treasured her family and valued spending time with them. Her grandchildren were the joy of her life.

Those remaining to cherish her memory are her devoted husband, William “Bunky” Johnson of Beaufort; daughter, Lisa Munden and husband Phillip of Morehead City; son, Michael Johnson and wife Kendra of Beaufort; sisters, Debbie Matthews of Buies Creek and Joyce Lamm and husband Jerry of Lillington; grandchildren, Lexie Lane Garner and Maggie Grace Munden, both of Morehead City, and Blake James Johnson of Beaufort; several nieces and nephews; and Brooke Rigsby of Mill Creek who Elaine loved like a granddaughter.

In addition to her parents, Elaine was preceded in death by her brother, Donald Ray Baker.

As an expression of sympathy, flowers are welcome or memorial contributions may be made to the Carteret County Humane Society, 853 Hibbs Rd., Newport, NC 28570.
