Harkers Island

Marion Ridgeway Redmond, 75, of Harkers Island, North Carolina, passed away on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at Carteret Health Care.

Marion was born on November 14, 1949, in Columbia, South Carolina, to the late Erwin T. “Ridge” Ridgeway Jr. and Edith "Deta" Aldrich Ridgeway. After spending the first part of her life living and working in Raleigh, Marion began her Second Act, moving with her husband, Charles, to Carteret County, NC to be close to her aging parents.

In her free time, Marion loved getting lost in a good book and was always staying on top of current events. An animal lover at heart, Marion always had a special love of “kitty cats”. Known for her adventurous spirit, she enjoyed the peace and excitement of sailing on the open waters, and cherished the camaraderie of her shipmates. It was during one of these sailing adventures, while on the Elizabeth II, that she met the love of her life, Charles.

In addition to her many interests, Marion was well known for her entertaining skills. She was an exceptional cook and a lively hostess, whose friends and family always enjoyed her gatherings. Marion was known and loved by all for her sweet and welcoming disposition.

Above all, Marion will be remembered as a devoted wife of 26 years, a loving mother, and a proud grandmother who treasured spending time with her family.

Those remaining to cherish her memory are her devoted husband, Charles Cass Redmond; daughters, Dita Lumsden of Beaufort, NC and Greta Lumsden of Raleigh, NC; grandchildren, Jordan Lumsden of Raleigh, NC, Joli Pizzo of Greensboro, NC, and William Pizzo of Raleigh, NC: and her cuddly kitty cats, Gus and Maxine.

In addition to her parents, Marion was preceded in death by her brother, James Randolph Ridgeway.

As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to Martha’s Mission Cupboard, 901 Bay St., Morehead City, NC 28557 or Outer Banks Wildlife Shelter, Inc., 100 Wildlife Way, Newport, NC 28570.

A Celebration of Life will be held in the fall of 2025.
