Marilyn Ersil (Merrill) Weger

December 29, 1940 — January 25, 2026

Morehead City

Marilyn Ersil (Merrill) Weger passed peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, January 25, 2026.

A funeral service to honor Marilyn’s life will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, January 29 at First Baptist Church in Morehead City, officiated by Pastor Darrell Williams. Interment will follow at Carteret Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Born on December 29, 1940, in Carteret County to David and Ersil Merrill, Marilyn grew up in the Wire Grass Community. She graduated from Beaufort High School in 1959, where she developed a fondness for math and science. In 1964, after a short courtship, she married the love of her life, Chester Weger.

Marilyn and Chet welcomed their son, Donny, in 1967 and their daughter, Kim, in 1970. They spent the next 15 years as an Air Force family stationed around the country—Hawaii was one of her favorites. In 1985, she returned home to Morehead City, where she worked as a civil servant at Cherry Point until her retirement in 2011.

A woman of deep faith, Marilyn loved the Lord and spent many Sundays worshiping at First Baptist Church. She loved dancing or as she called it “cutting a rug”. And she loved a good sweet treat after every meal. Above all else, Marilyn’s love for her family was constant and unmistakable.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her two sisters, Annette and Linda. She is survived by her brother, Fred; her son, Don (Bonnie); her daughter, Kim (Paul); her grandchildren, Chelsea, Caleb (Lindsay), Jacob (Breanna), and Matthew (Peyton); and her great-grandchildren, Cora, Georgia, and Lucy.

As her favorite movie reminds us, “Mama always said dying was a part of life. I sure wish it wasn’t.” We love you and will miss you the rest of our days.
