Marie Alstine Quinn Skinner, known to most as “Nana,” 100, of Atlantic Beach, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on September 30, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.

A funeral service to celebrate Alstine’s life will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, October 3rd at Soundview Original Free Will Baptist Church in Newport, officiated by Rev. Grady Simpson and Rev. Alstine was born on December 15, 1924, to the late Hester and Lula Quinn. She spent most of her life in Mill Creek, NC, before becoming a full-time resident of Atlantic Beach, NC. Prior to becoming a full-time homemaker, she worked at WB Hill Grocery, Styron's Department Store, and CM Hill Hardware.

Alstine was a woman of many passions. She was an avid bowler, participating in numerous state bowling tournaments, and enjoyed her free time sewing and gardening. Her family will forever remember her delicious cooking and her love of coastal life—whether she was clamming, boating, or fishing. She also treasured her trips to Florida to visit family and looked forward to socializing with her beach neighbors.

A woman of unwavering faith, Alstine loved her church and church family, where she was a cherished member. Nothing brought Nana greater joy than her family.

Remaining to honor her memory are her son, William Stanley "Billy" Skinner (Marti); her daughter, Winifred Jo McCabe (Bill); her grandchildren, Sally Lehman, Sandi Durham (Eddie), Mary Jo Clark (Eugene), Georgiana Small (Ernie), Gina McBride (Scott), and Allison Jennings (Brent); her great-grandchildren, Bennett Rose (Maegan), Chelsea Becvar, Charli Durham, Paige Clark, Hannah Clark, Bianca Johnson, Callie Johnson, Ryan Small, Kyle Small (Blair), Kannon McBride, Taylor McBride, Zade Jennings, and Carter Quinn Jennings; and her great-great-grandchildren, Ila Becvar and Dutton Small. Also cherishing her memory are her special niece, Norma Skinner, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Alstine was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Skinner; sisters, Ethel Bush (Richard) Dean Gurganus (James); and brother, Lionel Quinn.

Special thanks to her patient caregivers, Trish Harris, Rose Brown, Joan Booth, Deborah Wainwright, and the nurses of Pruitt Hospice.
