Margaret "Peggy" Royall Smith

Margaret "Peggy" Royall Smith, 91, of Morehead City, North Carolina, passed away on Saturday, December 16, 2023, at her home.

A memorial service to honor Peggy's life will be held at 4 p.m., Monday, January 15, 2024, at Franklin Memorial Methodist Church, officiated by Rev. Donald Thomas. The family will receive friends after the service in the Fellowship Hall.

Peggy was born on November 24, 1932, in Clinton, North Carolina, to the late Theodore and Blanche Royall. She was a woman of faith and a devoted member of Franklin Memorial Methodist Church. She found great joy in serving her community and was an active member of the Leon Mann Center. Always eager to support her children, Peggy spent countless hours cheering them on at soccer, basketball, and football games. She also generously volunteered her time at local schools, demonstrating her passion for education and her love for children.

Professionally, Peggy was a dedicated sales associate at Belk Department Store. Known for her warm personality and exceptional customer service, Peggy was a joy to all she encountered.

Beyond her professional pursuits, Peggy had a zest for life and a love for travel.

Those remaining to cherish her memory are her sons, John Shelton Smith Jr. and Gary Stuart Smith, both of Morehead City; grandchildren, Bryan Kevin Stofel (Christine) of San Antonio, TX; and great-grandchildren, Stephen Stofel and Elizabeth Stofel.

In addition to her parents, Peggy was preceded in death by her husband, John Shelton Smith Sr., and brothers, Theodore Stuart Royall Jr. and John Alvin Royall.
