Mae Ayako Morioka, 102, of Havelock, North Carolina, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, August 29, 2025.

A graveside service to honor Ms. Morioka's life will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, September 12th at Michigan Memorial Park Cemetery in Flat Rock, Michigan.

Born on May 30, 1923, in Kirkland, Washington, Mae was the daughter of the late Kakusaburo and Koto Morioka.

Ms. Morioka had a love of learning and pursued that by passion by obtaining her master’s degree in education. She went on to have a dedicated and fulfilling 30+ year career as an elementary teacher within the public school system where she took advantage of every opportunity to inspire and nurture young minds.

In her free time, Ms. Morioka enjoyed in traveling and exploring the world around her. She had an appreciation for good food and delighted in sharing meals with family and friends.

Mae is survived by numerous loving nieces and nephews who will cherish her memory.

In addition to her parents, Ms. Morioka was preceded in death by her sisters, Lily Nishimoto and Helen Robertson and brothers, Roy Morioka, George Morioka, and Setsuo Morioka.

As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to Annunciation Catholic School, 246 E Main St., Havelock, NC 28532.
