Lula Elsie Harrison Walsh

Lula Elsie Harrison Walsh, age 96, of Rivershore Drive in New Bern, died on July 24, 2023.

Elsie resided at Rivershore Drive for 45 years. She assisted her daughter in running the Yarn and Knit Shop in the 1970s. She was active in the development of the Coastal Women's Shelter and volunteered for their Crisis Line for years. She responded to urgent calls for help and appeared in court in support of women's domestic rights.

She is survived by Stephen W. Walsh, her husband of 77 years. She was one of two daughters and seven sons born to Dannie Godley and Snowdee Harrison. She was pre-deceased by all of her brothers and is survived by her sister, Sybil (Jerry), and sisters-in-law Patti, Mary Lou and Evelyn. She was the mother of five children, and had eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, two great­greatgrandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, and step-family relatives.

Also surviving are daughters, Carolyn (Nie), Patti, and Joanne (Ron); sons, Stephen and William (Cathy); grandchildren, Sonya (Ben), Susan, Sarah (Stephen), Meredith (Adam), Victoria, Matthew (Abby), Stephen, and Stephanie; greatgrandchildren, Farrah and Benny, Ryan, Julia and Joseph; and great-greatgrandchildren, Jensen and Miles.

Donations may be made in Elsie's name to Coastal Women's Shelter of Craven County.

No memorial service is planned at this time.
