Louise Huffaker Kelly, 89, of Morehead City, North Carolina, passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, June 30, 2025.
A funeral service to celebrate Louise’s life will be held at 3 p.m., Sunday, July 6th at Munden Funeral Home, officiated by Chaplain Rick Brooks. Interment will follow at Gethsemane Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. For those unable to attend, the service can be viewed through her obituary page on Munden Funeral Home’s website. The service will remain on the Funeral Home website for 90 days.
Louise was born on September 10, 1935, in Knoxville, Tennessee, to the late Roy and Opal Kennedy Huffaker. She married her loving husband, Herbert Kelly, in 1953, and they just celebrated 72 years together this past January.
Louise enjoyed cooking and taking care of her home and family. She loved to sew and was very accomplished at it. She volunteered as a grade mother for many years in her daughter’s classrooms and with many church activities at First Baptist Church. She later became a charter member of Open Door Baptist Church where she was an active member of the cooking committee along with many other activities including Vacation Bible School.
Those remaining to cherish her memory are her husband, Herbert Kelly; daughters, Carol Poston and husband Paul, and Lisa Kearns, all of Morehead City, NC; grandchildren, John Kearns Jr. of Los Angeles, CA, Melissa Eldred and husband Kenny of Morehead City, NC, Hillary Poston of Greenville, NC, and Noah Poston of Raleigh, NC; great-grandchildren, Kelly Eldred and Kenneth Eldred, both of Morehead City, NC; special niece, Debbie T. Anderson of Loudon, TN; her precious cat, Mitten; and many loving nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Louise was preceded in death by her brothers, C.W. Huffaker and Bobbie Tharp.
The family would like to especially thank their cousins, Nancy Styron, Mamie Holt, and Vernon Kelly and his wife Michele, good friend, Teresa Saunders, caregiver, Malena Willis, and the Hospice Care Team for their loving support during this difficult time in their lives.
