Morehead City

Lola White Droudes, 88, of Roanoke, Virginia, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.

Born on October 10, 1937, in Hillsville, Virginia, Lola was the daughter of the late Homer Howard White and Verlia (Beasley) White. She was the youngest of six children.

After moving to Roanoke, Lola met and married the love of her life, George Droudes. They spent 39 wonderful years together before his passing. They raised their two girls, Bonnie and Lori, and later welcomed Kenny and Larry into the family when the girls married. The family grew with grandchildren and Lola and George loved spending time with Nicholas, Alexis, Kristen, and Carrie.

When her girls were young, Lola was a stay-at-home mom who enjoyed being actively involved in their school lives by volunteering as room mom and serving as President of the PTA. She was also involved in her community, volunteering at PBS and the Greek Orthodox Church.

Her work life began when she moved to Roanoke with one of her first jobs being a continuity writer at WDBJ Radio. After the girls were older, she returned to work, spending more than 26 years with the United Methodist Church both as church secretary of Raleigh Court UMC and as office manager of the Roanoke District Office of the UMC.

Lola loved spending time with her family and friends. She was a talented writer, artist, and avid reader who also enjoyed music. She loved to travel to spend time with family. She was a wonderful cook and loved to entertain. She was especially known for her Greek cooking, particularly the Greek pastries she made around the holidays.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved husband, as well as her siblings, Pauline McMillan, Anna Ruth Sharpe, Violet Spangler, and Billy White; her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Charles and Christine Contes; and her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, John and Frieda Droudes.

Those who will cherish her memory include her daughters, Bonnie (Kenny, deceased) and Lori (Larry); grandchildren Nicholas, Alexis, Kristen, and Carrie; her brother Benny (Shirley); sister-in-law Sue White; and many cherished nieces, nephews, family, and lifelong friends.
