Lloyd Bryan Springle Jr. "Bucky"

April 8, 1947 — May 22, 2025

Atlantic Beach

Lloyd Bryan Springle, Jr. "Bucky", 78, of Atlantic Beach, North Carolina, passed away on Thursday, May 22, 2025. Despite facing an extended illness, he left us suddenly following a single-car accident in Morehead City.

Bucky, a native of Gainesville, Georgia, was born on April 8, 1947, to the late Bryan and Kitty Springle. He was a 1965 graduate of Gainesville High School and a 1969 graduate of the University of Georgia with a degree in journalism. He served as the editor of the Gainesville Tribune until 1974, when he began a 35-year career in all facets of the real estate business as a broker, developer, and home builder.

He was an avid golfer who played in the Georgia State Amateur and the Georgia State Open tournaments. He traveled often to the North Carolina coast, and he fished in the 2nd Annual Atlantic Beach King Mackerel Tournament. After the first day, he was in second place. When he called his father to tell him, his dad remarked, "Thank God, you don't have to putt!" After a few years, pictures of golf on the walls at his home were replaced by pictures of King Mackerel and Marlin, and the transition was complete.

Bucky moved permanently to Atlantic Beach in 2010 after spending 35 years driving a thousand miles roundtrip to visit family and friends and go fishing. He loved his friends, the ocean, boats, fishing, and his dogs. He was a member of the First Methodist Church in Morehead City, North Carolina.

Bucky is survived by his brother, Pat Springle and his wife Joyce of Friendswood, Texas; niece, Catherine Springle Wheatley and her husband Paul, and their children, Winnie, Bea, and Rosie, of Nashotah, Wisconsin; and his nephew, Taylor Springle and his wife Brittany and their children, Chloe and Calvin of Long Beach, California.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to PAWS, (Pet Adoption and Welfare Society of Carteret County), 5042 Mattie St., Morehead City, NC 28557 or the Carteret County Humane Society, 853 Hibbs Rd., Newport, NC 28570.
