Obituary

Lisa Lewis Kittrell, 59, of Beaufort, North Carolina, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, May 28, 2026.

A funeral service to honor Lisa’s life will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, June 6th at First United Methodist Church in Morehead City, officiated by Rev. Sarah Williams. The family will receive friends the evening prior from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., Friday, June 5th at Munden Funeral Home. She will be laid to rest privately at Victoria Community Cemetery in Marshallberg. For those unable to attend her funeral, the service can be viewed through her obituary page on Munden Funeral Home’s website.

Lisa’s life was one of love, family, education and friendship. She was a cherished daughter born in Wilmington, NC to Chuck and Claudia Lewis on January 31, 1967. Lisa grew up in Beaufort surrounded by a large loving family and friends too numerous to count. She truly was everyone’s best friend.

Lisa was a proud graduate of the East Carteret Class of 1985 and a 1989 graduate of The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Lisa loved to cheer on the Mariners and the Tarheels in all sports. She grew up a “coach’s kid” so she was around sports from the very beginning. After college Lisa moved to Atlanta, Georgia, with her college roommates, where she taught school for 2 years. This was an experience she spoke of fondly her entire life.

Lisa moved back to Carteret County and taught in Craven and Carteret County Schools. She later received her Masters in Education Administration from East Carolina University and became an Assistant Principal in Carteret County at Bogue Sound Elementary and Newport Elementary. Over the years she was the Director of Elementary Education, Director of English/Language Arts and Early Childhood and retired as the Director of English/Language Arts, Professional Development and Federal Programs. After retirement she became the Director of the Early Learning Center at First Methodist Church in Morehead City. She truly was a lifelong educator who loved the idea that she could change a child’s life through education. She was always teaching, not only in a classroom but in all aspects of life.

Lisa will be remembered for her smile, the way she loved, her faith and her compassion for others. She enjoyed boating, playing bridge and socializing and was the person who always made sure her family and friends needs were met. She was the epitome of selflessness.

Lisa is survived by her parents; her husband of 33 years, Gray Kittrell of Beaufort; son, Miller Kittrell and wife Sarah of Gloucester; daughter, Allie Kittrell of Beaufort; brother, Scott Lewis and wife Jodi, and their daughters Mary Margaret and Caroline of Morehead City. She is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, her in-laws and friends. Her children were the light and joy of her life.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Elizabeth and Claude Taylor, Opal and David Hill and Charles Lewis.

Flowers are welcome or please donate to the Boys and Girls Club of Coastal Carolina, The Carteret County Schools Educational Foundation, The Carteret Partnership for Children or a charity of your choice.
