Linda Smith Morey

Linda Smith Morey, 70, of Morehead City, passed away on Monday, November 7, 2022, at Duke Regional Hospital.

Her memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, November 22nd, at First United Methodist Church in Morehead City. She will be laid to rest privately at Cedar Grove Cemetery in Newport.

Linda was born on July 25, 1952, to the late Burton and Lula Mae Smith. Born in raised and Oxford, North Carolina, Linda grew up on a farm and graduated from J.F. Webb High School. With a keen eye for detail and a love of numbers, Linda furthered her education at Hardbarger Business School in Raleigh and went on to have a long career as a bookkeeper.

On April 8, 1978, she married Milton “Pete” Morey Jr. and in January of 1984, they moved to Morehead City. She continued her bookkeeping skills in various businesses in Carteret County except for the timeframe when her children were young.  Linda always enjoyed a challenging game of cards and was active with the Canasta group at the Morehead City Country Club. Linda was a loving wife, mother, and “g’ma”.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Milton “Pete” Blanchard Morey Jr. of the home; daughter, Leslie Morey Whitmore (Aaron) of Morehead City; son, Chris Morey of Morehead City; sisters, Edith Clark (Sidney) of Wadesboro and Jean Wilson of Oxford; and 2 grandchildren, Gavin Whitmore and Cohen Whitmore.

In addition to her parents, Linda was preceded in death by her sister, Frances W. Jones, and her brother, Jerry Smith.
