Obituary

Lina Rebecca “Becky” Blankenship, 87, of Morehead City, North Carolina, passed away on June 11th, 2026, at Crystal Bluffs Rehabilitation & Health Care Center.

A memorial service to honor Becky’s life will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, June 14th at Munden Funeral Home, officiated by Rev. Patrick Whaley. A reception will immediately follow the service.

Becky was born on September 18, 1938, in Salisbury, NC, to the late Lina Vuncannon Brown Shuping and Samuel A. Shuping. Growing up in Salisbury, she was exceptionally bright, graduating in the top ten of her class from Boyden High School in 1956, where she also served as the Senior Year Yearbook Editor. She went on to graduate from Salisbury Business College in 1958. Soon thereafter, she met Gerald Yetter, a Marine stationed at Camp Lejeune. They married and moved to Neenah, Wisconsin, where she took great pride in raising her family.

Armed with impressive administrative and organizational skills, Becky worked at Horace Mann Junior High School, forming deep bonds with the staff and students. She later transitioned to the executive wing of the Neenah Foundry, a position she absolutely loved and always cherished.

In time, life brought a beautiful twist when Becky reconnected with a high school classmate from Salisbury, Alan Blankenship. She moved back to North Carolina to be with Alan, the love of her life and her husband of 41 years. Together, they lived and worked in Raleigh. With Becky’s administrative skills and Alan’s sales skills, the two were able to build a successful business that all started in a spare bedroom. She later went on to work for the North Carolina Bar Association.

As they got closer to retirement, they discovered the charming town of Beaufort. They fell in love with the area, purchasing and beautifully restoring two historic homes—one on Broad Street and another on Orange Street. Becky possessed a true talent for restoration and interior decorating. Her passion for the coast was contagious; her family equally fell in love with Beaufort and Morehead City, with several of their children eventually purchasing their own homes in Carteret County. Becky fully immersed herself in the local community as an active member of the Beaufort Historic Association (BHA), the Garden Club, and the Women’s Club. Faith was always central to her life; she was deeply active in her churches, where she loved writing church plays and singing hymns.

To know Becky was to know true sweetness. Her gentle spirit was evident to everyone, including the staff at Crystal Bluffs, where she resided for the last few years. The family extends their deepest gratitude to the team at Crystal Bluffs for the loving care they provided.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Alan L. Blankenship of Morehead City; her children, Lisa Yetter Ulrich (Robert), Grant Yetter (Consuelo), Tracy Jester (Vince), Serena Buckner (Ted), Alan Blankenship II (Sandee), Traci Smith (Marshall), and Caroline McCormac (Stuart); her cherished grandchildren, Brooke Ulrich, Jack Jester, Dane Buckner (Kelly), Graham Buckner, Colin McCormac (Emily), Justin McCormac, Kati Casella (Mike), and Holli Philpott (Jacob); and her beloved great-grandchildren, Jett, Cora, Tanner, and Ella.

Becky was preceded in death by her parents and her five siblings.
