L.G. "Barney" Kornegay, 102, of Emerald Isle, North Carolina, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, June 10, 2026.

Born on January 14, 1924, in Goldsboro, NC, Barney was the son of the late Junius and Sally Kornegay. He lived a long and meaningful life centered around faith, family, hard work, and service to others.

One of Barney's greatest blessings was the 65 years he shared with the love of his life, his beloved wife, Vickie, until her passing in 2013. Together they built not only a successful business but also a life filled with devotion, partnership, and countless cherished memories. As owners and operators of Barbeque Lodge Restaurant in Kinston, they welcomed generations of customers through their doors, earning a reputation for great food, warm hospitality, and genuine friendships. For 42 years, the restaurant became a beloved gathering place in the community and a reflection of Barney and Vickie's dedication and hard work.

Following retirement in 1990, Barney and Vickie made their permanent home in Emerald Isle, where they enjoyed the beauty of coastal living and many happy years together.

Barney was a man of deep faith and strong character. Once a devoted member of Swansboro United Methodist Church, he found strength and fellowship through his church family.

Those remaining to cherish his memory are his daughter, Cindy Kornegay of Pine Knoll Shores, NC.

In addition to his parents, Barney was preceded in death by his beloved wife in 2013, Vivian "Vickey" Grant Kornegay.
