Leslie was born on March 24, 1947, in Cedar Point, NC, to the late Leslie and Oleda Smith Guthrie. When he spoke of his childhood, his eyes would light up as he fondly reminisced about working alongside his father on shrimp boats. It was during those formative years that Leslie developed a deep love for the sea and everything associated with it. He could hold his breath for an impressive amount of time, a skill that came in handy when he worked on the underwater parts of boats.

Leslie had a natural knack for working with his hands and was known for his passion for dismantling and reassembling things. Leslie was always intrigued with how things worked.

Leslie had served the community as a dedicated volunteer at the Salter Path Fire Department. His selflessness and commitment to protecting others were inspirational.

Known for his love of dogs, Leslie always had a soft spot for his furry friends. He was happy to have a wagging tail near him and always had a warm heart for any canine companion. In his free time, Leslie loved watching wrestling. He found joy and excitement in each match, cheering on his favorite wrestlers with fervor and enthusiasm.

Family was of utmost importance to Leslie, and he will forever be missed and treasured in the hearts of his loved ones. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, resilience, and a genuine love for others.

Those remaining to cherish his memory are his sisters, Linda Coleman (Clinton) of Jacksonville, Vesta Willis of Salter Path, Sandra Pierce of Sneads Ferry, Bernadette Liverman (Benny) of Sneads Ferry, and Darlene Guthrie (Ernie) of Salter Path.

In addition to his parents, Leslie was preceded in death by his sisters, Carol Guthrie and Phyllis Snipes; brother, Walter Ray Guthrie; and brothers-in-law, Wade Willis and Phil Pierce.

Flowers are welcome or memorial donations may be made to Tunnels to Towers, 2361 Hylan Blvd., Staten Island, NY 10306.
