Lee Christopher
Etter
June 25, 1972 — October 22, 2026
Newport
Lee Christopher Etter, 54, of Newport, North Carolina, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, October 22, 2026, while on a hunting trip in Bertie County.
A celebration to honor Lee's life will be held in the upcoming weeks. Service details will be shared once finalized.
Lee was born on June 25, 1972, in Morehead City, North Carolina, to Roger Etter and Jeanne Greene. Known for his playful nature and easygoing personality, Lee was always a joy to be around. He loved to joke with others, give everyone a hard time in good fun, and bring laughter to those around him. Lee also had a true appreciation for a good food and a delicious meal and never passed up an opportunity to enjoy one.
Lee found joy in the simple pleasures of life, especially spending time outdoors fishing and hunting. He looked forward to his annual hunting trips, making memories along the way while enjoying a pastime he loved. He was also a devoted Pittsburgh Steelers fan who rarely missed watching a game and thoroughly enjoyed cheering on his favorite team.
Above all, Lee's greatest happiness came from his family. He treasured the time they spent together, and those moments with his loved ones meant more to him than anything else. One of his favorite traditions was his Friday night dates with his daughter Molly, special times together that she will always hold dear.
Those remaining to cherish his memory are his children, Phillip Slabaugh of Morehead City, NC, Alex Etter Glissendorf (Steven) of Rutledge, TN, Lee Etter Jr. of Newport, NC and Molly Etter of Newport, NC; mother, Jeanne Greene of Newport, NC; and granddaughter, Scotty Glissendorf.
Lee was preceded in death by his father, Roger Dale Etter.
As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to St. James United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 250, Newport, NC 28570.
