Laura Lewis Austin, 81, formerly of Morehead City, North Carolina, passed away on June 27, 2025, in Olathe, Kansas.
A Celebration of Life will be held for her friends in Kansas from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. on Saturday, July 26th at Olathe Towers, 1425 E College Way, Olathe, KS 66062.
For local friends and family, a memorial service to honor Laura’s life will be held at 6 p.m., Friday, October 17th at Munden Funeral Home in Morehead City, NC. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Laura was born on September 17, 1943, in Morehead City, NC, to the late Charlie Thomas Lewis and Virginia Lockart Rowe.
Laura, at one time, was highly involved with West Carteret High School Marching Band. She put her expert sewing skills to use by making the Flag Teams flags for numerous years. Laura also enjoyed crafting and cooking for friends and family. She had a keen soft spot for dogs and dearly loved each one that she owned.
Laura is survived by her children, Trina Austin Gibson and John S. Austin; grandchildren, Bianica Austin, Richard Austin, Zachary Gibson, Danielle Austin, and Cameron Gibson; sibling, Brian Rowe; nieces, Malissa Lewis DeBruhl and Christian Lewis Knight; great-nephew, James M. Lewis; great niece, Randi Bell; and a loving extended family.
In addition to her parents, Laura was preceded in death by her brother, Lenton Lewis and sister-in-law, Brenda Morton Lewis.
