Glenn "Skeeter" McLawhorn, 70, of Beaufort, North Carolina, passed away on Wednesday, March 20, 2024, at the Crystal Coast Hospice House.
A memorial service, with Masonic Rites, to honor Skeeter’s life will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, March 29th at Munden Funeral Home, officiated by Rev. Paul Loftin. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. For those unable to attend, the service can be viewed through his obituary page on Munden Funeral Home’s website. The service will remain on the Funeral Home website for 90 days.
Skeeter was born on December 5, 1953, in Morehead City, North Carolina, to the late Ed and Elba McLawhorn. From a young age, Skeeter found joy in the simple pleasures of riding horses and competing in various shows. His dedication to service was evident early on when he joined the Boy Scouts, laying the foundation for a lifetime of community involvement and selflessness. In later years he became a member of the Masonic Ocean Lodge #405 and was proud to be a Shriner, serving his community.
Skeeter lived the Salt Life through and through. Beginning in his early days working hard with the Salter Path Fishing Crew to navigating as a Commercial Fisherman and working diligently with the NC Ferry Division and running dredge boats. Skeeter also worked as a carpenter over the years where his attention to detail and precision were exceptional for his trade.
Skeeter's love for the outdoors knew no bounds. Whether casting a line with his girls or his fishing buddy Jonathan or roaming through the woods on a hunting trip with Ryan, nature held a special place in his heart. He enjoyed cheering on his grandson during ball games and enjoyed cooking out at his sister Taffie's house. Skeeter loved spending time with his wife Anna going out to eat at their favorite restaurants and going shopping. He loved music and enjoyed lounging on his front porch, listening to a good tune. Skeeter loved to sing and in his younger years, he was a choir member of the Salter Path Methodist Church.
Skeeter's charismatic nature knew no bounds - he had a gift for striking up conversations with anyone who crossed his path, never knowing a stranger and always finding a friend. More than anything, Skeeter loved his family, his friends, and his loyal dog, Junior.
Those remaining to cherish his memory are his wife, Anna McLawhorn of Beaufort; daughters, Alicia Forbes of Morehead City and Emily McLawhorn of Swansboro; step-daughter, Kimberly Bell of Beaufort; grandchildren, Skylar McNeil, Haigan McNeil, Garrett Forbes, Emma Bell, and Brantley Forbes; sister, Taffie Baysden (Jamie) of Morehead City; brothers-in-law, Davie Guthrie of Harkers Island and Rodney Guthrie (Nancy) of Morehead City; sister-in-law, Connie Gaskill of Harkers Island; nephews, Ryan Baysden of Newport, Clinton Baysden of Hubert and Justin Baysden of Newport; and numerous nieces and nephews.
