Kenneth, known to his friends and family as Smokey, was born on September 1, 1949, in Jacksonville, North Carolina to the late David and Hazel Futrell. He had a thriving career in the fuel industry, working as a fuel distributor for Exxon and he was also the proud owner-operator of Newport Fuel Company, where he provided invaluable service to the local community and was a trusted business owner. Smokey's strong work ethic gained him the admiration of his colleagues and customers alike.

In his leisure time, Smokey enjoyed the great outdoors. Camping and fishing were among his favorite pastimes, as they allowed him to connect with nature and enjoy the simple pleasures in life. He relished every moment spent surrounded by family and friends. Together, they built a beautiful family, filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories. Smokey was a caring and devoted husband, loving father, and proud grandfather.

Those remaining to cherish his memory are his wife, Terisa Futrell; children, Lisa Boyd (aka Smokey Jr.) and husband Jamie, and Matt Futrell and wife Nicole, all of Newport; brother, David Glenn Futrell Jr.; and grandchildren, Kyndel Boyd, Landon Futrell, and Nicholas Dailey.
