Kenneth, known to his friends and family as Smokey, was born on September 1, 1949, in Jacksonville, North Carolina to the late David and Hazel Futrell. He had a thriving career in the fuel industry, working as a fuel distributor for Exxon and he was also the proud owner-operator of Newport Fuel Company, where he provided invaluable service to the local community and was a trusted business owner. Smokey's strong work ethic gained him the admiration of his colleagues and customers alike.

In his leisure time, Smokey enjoyed the great outdoors. Camping and fishing were among his favorite pastimes, as they allowed him to connect with nature and enjoy the simple pleasures in life. He relished every moment spent surrounded by family and friends. Smokey's magnetic personality and good sense of humor brought joy to those around him, and he will be remembered for his ability to bring a smile to anyone's face.

Throughout his life, Smokey was an active member of various community organizations, including the Moose Lodge, Elks Lodge, and VFW. He found fulfillment in serving his community and forged lifelong friendships through these associations.
