Obituary

Kenneth H. Swann, 86, of Lafayette, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 27, 2026, at his son’s home.

Kenneth was born on October 17, 1939, in Springfield, Tennessee, to the late Hubert and Sarah Claiborne Swann.

He proudly served in the United States Army with the 4th Armored Division, stationed at Cooke Barracks in Göppingen, Germany, from 1958 to 1962 during the Cold War. His service was a meaningful part of his life and something he carried with quiet pride.

Kenneth found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He enjoyed collecting coins, stamps, and later in life, porcelain dolls—carefully curating each collection over the years. He was an avid reader and, even after losing his sight, continued his love for books through recordings provided by the Library of Congress National Library Service for the Blind.

In his earlier years, Kenneth had a deep appreciation for photography, capturing everyday moments and preserving memories for those he loved. He especially cherished time spent with his beloved wife, Dean Swann. Together, they enjoyed driving through the countryside and visiting the Gatlinburg and Smoky Mountain areas, where they found peace in nature and took quiet walks side by side. Following his retirement, they were rarely apart, sharing life’s days together with constant companionship.

Kenneth will be remembered for his kindness, patience, gentle spirit, and his ability to find joy in the little things.

Those left to cherish his memory are his sons, Kenneth Scott Swann (Carolyn Ussery) of Brunswick, Georgia, and Steven Swann (Marilyn) of Havelock, North Carolina; grandchildren, Anna Swann of Guam and Michael Swann of Havelock, North Carolina.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Dean Swann, and his sister, Patsy Brown.
