Judith “Judy” A. Berkshire, 82, of New Bern, passed away on Monday, July 10, 2023, at Carolina East Medical Center.
Her memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, August 9th, at St. Andrew Lutheran Church in New Bern.
Judy was born on December 25, 1940, in Trenton, New Jersey, to the late Stover and Stella Crouthamel. She met the love of her life “Dick” in an Alley, (Bowling Alley) and spent 59 wonderful years with him. Judy was a follower of Christ whose faith shone brightly in all aspects of her life. Her home church was St. Andrew Lutheran Church in New Bern where her voice graced the choir loft, filling the sanctuary with celestial melodies. Judy skillfully played the handbells which resonated with all in attendance. She also was a member of the Fairfield Harbour Belles.
Beyond her musical talents, Judy was a dedicated nurse who extended comfort and care to countless patients throughout her career. In her leisure time, she enjoyed the delights of friendly competition around the Bridge table. Her presence at the Bridge gatherings was memorable, to say the least. But it was in the kitchen where Judy truly excelled. Her culinary creations were nothing short of divine. May her memory be a blessing to all who knew and loved her.
Those left to treasure her memory are her loving husband, Richard “Dick” Berkshire of the home; sons, Bill Berkshire (Cindy) of Pittsburgh, PA, Tom Berkshire of Caldwell, NJ; brothers, John Crouthamel (Vera) of Chatham, NJ, Jim Crouthamel (Mary) of Mt. Vernon, NY; and grandchildren, William and Lilly Berkshire.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Larry and Luther Crouthamel.
