Judith West McPherson, 80, of Atlantic Beach, North Carolina, passed away at her home on Wednesday, April 17, 2024.
A celebration of Judith’s life will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, April 22nd at Munden Funeral Home in Morehead City, with a time of visitation beginning one hour prior.
There will be an additional celebration of life at 2 p.m. on Friday, April 26th at Friedland Moravian Church in Winston-Salem, with a time of visitation beginning one hour prior.
Judith was born on January 21, 1944, in Durham, North Carolina. During her time at Durham High School, Judith played the flute in the school band. The highlight of her band days was the opportunity to perform in the Macy's Day parade. In her younger years, Judith found joy in the performing arts through her work with the Theatre Guild. Alongside her family in Durham, she shared laughter and love while serving their local community.
Judith furthered her education at Rex Hospital where she earned her nursing degree. She dedicated herself to caring for others and touched countless lives through her compassionate work.
A devoted member of Friedland Moravian Church, Judith contributed her voice to the choir and actively participated in the women's fellowship. Judith’s commitment extended beyond the church as she devoted her time to guiding generations of girls through the Girl Scouts program. She happily worked as the Regional Cookie Manager for the Tarheel Triad Council, which included countless hours of data entry. Whether she was running the Troops at Friedland in Winston-Salem and working as Camp Nurse at Camp Keyauwee, Judith's selfless devotion shone bright.
Above all else, Judith cherished her role as a loving wife of 58 years and found fulfillment in being a mother and grandmother, nurturing her family. Her legacy of love lives on through those dearest to her heart: her husband, R. R. “Ron” McPherson; daughter, Laura C. McPherson of Havelock, NC; son, Robert Thurber McPherson and wife Carrie of Foster, RI; grandson, Robert “Charlie” McPherson; step-grandson, Carter Elliott Windle; nephew, Skipp Whipple; and beloved cat, Pretty Boy.
Judith is reunited in peace with those who went before her: her father, A.T. West; mother, Vera Buckingham McKay; step-father, Ned Foy McKay; brother, Carl West; brother and sister-in-law, Bud and Myrtle Ruth Whipple; and her dog, Bit Bit.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Girl Scouts Carolinas Peaks to Piedmont c/o Resource Development, 208 Union Square NW, Suite 101, Hickory, NC 28601. Please note that gifts are being made in memory of Judith McPherson.
