Judith Burkey Ferguson, 83, of Newport, North Carolina, passed away on June 13, 2026. She was a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Born on November 9, 1942, in Connellsville, Pennsylvania, Judy was the daughter of Mary Elizabeth and Nevin C. Burkey. She married the love of her life, Jerry, in 1960. High school sweethearts, they were married for 66 years, a bond that never wavered from the very start.
Judy spent her early career as a nurse before becoming a successful real estate agent along the Crystal Coast, a place she truly loved. She was deeply devoted to her family, and there was nowhere she would rather be than surrounded by the people she loved most. She never missed an important event in her grandchildren's lives and took great pride in being there for each of them. The arrival of her great-grandchildren, Emma and Riley, brought her a joy that was evident to everyone around her.
She is survived by her husband, Jerry Ferguson, of the home; her daughter, Wendy (Ferguson) Sullivan and son-in-law Bryan Sullivan, of Kitty Hawk, North Carolina; her son, Scott Ferguson and daughter-in-law Susie Ferguson, of Goldsboro, North Carolina; her grandson, Taylor Sullivan and his wife Rebecca, of Youngsville, North Carolina, and their daughters, Emma and Riley Sullivan; her granddaughter, Anderson Sullivan, of Washington, D.C.; and her beloved and faithful companion, Addie.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Swansboro United Methodist Church, 655 W. Corbett Ave., Swansboro, North Carolina.
