Formerly of Carolina Pines

Joseph Edward Sesco, 75, formerly of Carolina Pines, North Carolina, passed away on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, at The Inn at Sharon Brooke Assisted Living in Newark, Ohio.

A funeral mass to honor Joseph’s life will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, December 23rd at Annunciation Catholic Church in Havelock, NC, presided by Rev. Thomas Davis. Interment will follow at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery in New Bern, NC. The family will receive friends the evening prior, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., Monday, December 22nd at Annunciation Catholic Church in Havelock, NC.

Joseph was born on December 7, 1950, in Brownsville, Pennsylvania, to the late Charles and Mary Sesco. He proudly served in the Pennsylvania Army National Guard. He devoted his professional life to education, serving as a schoolteacher to multiple generations of children and a proud union member of the Pennsylvania State Education Association (PSEA). Teaching was more than a career for Joseph; it was a calling rooted in service and commitment to others.

During his years in Pennsylvania, Joseph was deeply involved in the Russian Orthodox Church, reflecting a lifelong devotion to faith and community. After relocating to North Carolina, Joseph became a devoted parishioner of Annunciation Catholic Church and an active member of the American Legion.

Joseph embraced life fully. He lived never owing a favor, yet always ready to extend one. He loved golfing, riding his motorcycle in his early years, enjoying his golf cart in his later years, his canine companions Buffy and Boots, and maintaining an active social life. Each morning, he could be found sharing conversation and laughter with his friends in the “Old Man Group,” a routine he treasured deeply.

Above all else, Joseph was a devoted family man. He was the loving husband of 39 years to his sweetheart, Diane, an amazing father, and a proud and adoring grandfather. His kindness, loyalty, and warm presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Those remaining to cherish his memory are his daughters, Rebecca Malek (Todd) of New Bern, NC, Michelle Sesco of New York, NY, and Jessica Breuer of Fort Belvoir, VA; son, Christopher Sesco (Kelly) of Finleyville, PA; sister, Ruth Sesco Brandal (William) of Newark, OH; brother, Richard Sesco (Kathryn) of Ashtabula, OH; and grandchildren, Raina Malek, Travis Malek, Daniel Sesco, Matthew Breuer, and Nathan Sesco.

In addition to his parents, Joseph was preceded in death by his loving wife, Diane Elizabeth Sesco; son-in-law, Eric N. Breuer; and grandson, Michael J. Breuer.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Colonial Capital Humane Society of New Bern, NC, or The Inn at SharonBrooke Assisted Living, 920 Sharon Valley Rd., Newark, OH 43055.
