Joseph "Joe"
Logan Jr.
March 6, 1939 — July 4, 2026
Joe was born in Sumter, SC on March 6, 1939. He graduated from Edmunds High School in Sumter in 1957, and from the University of South Carolina in 1961. He worked in Sumter for a short while after graduation, then was with Price Waterhouse & Co. in Atlanta where he met and married Anne Chambers in 1967. Joe was lured to the coast of North Carolina by his friend and fraternity brother Joe Harley of New Bern, and they opened a Kentucky Fried Chicken outlet in Havelock, NC in 1969. Joe subsequently opened a second location in Morehead City, NC, where he resided.
A Celebration of life will be held at Carteret Community College at a later date.
Joe never met a stranger, making many friends everywhere he lived. His sharp sense of humor never turned off: Joe was always ready with a story with a humorous twist, even if it he were the object of the joke. His impressive memory never forgot a detail or a good joke, which he thoroughly enjoyed telling. And telling. And telling. A good joke never wears out was his philosophy.
Joe worked for a CPA firm in Myrtle Beach for a few years to complete his work experience to earn his CPA. While working there, he built a beach house at Crescent Beach (now N. Myrtle Beach) and stayed there during tax time each year. He became friends with his realtor, participating in many late-night card games with the realtor group. Joe mentioned that their business would be much better if they could figure out how to get people to come to the beach in the wintertime, and the result was the first public golf course on the Grand Strand. That started a tsunami of golf courses!
Joe was a generous person. Many people were recipients of Joe’s charitable nature, especially those who needed it the most. Most of his generosity was anonymous: He was not doing it for the recognition, but because it was the right thing to do. He believed in giving people a hand up, not a handout. Recipients of his philanthropy include the Carteret County Habitat for Humanity and the Carteret County Community College among many others.
Joe was preceded by his father Joseph E. Logan, Sr., his mother Myrtis Baker Logan, his sister Agnes Logan, and his wife Anne. He is survived by his brother Gordon of Georgetown, Texas. He will be missed by all whom he touched.
Donations can be made to 2 of Joe’s favorite charities, Habitat for Humanity ramp program, 5898 US 70, Newport, N.C. 28570 or the CCCF Joe Logan scholarship fund, 3505 Arendell Street, Morehead City, N.C. 28557.
