Peletier

Johnny “John” Clifton Johnson, age 73, of Peletier, NC, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Saturday, December 10, 2022, at Carteret Health Care, Morehead City, NC.

Born February 24, 1949, in Johnston County, NC, he was the son of the late Ira Clifton Johnson and Mary Evelyn Brown Johnson. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Michael Stephen Johnson; his daughter-in-law, Valerie J. Johnson; and two nephews, Michael Stephen Johnson, Jr., and Robert David Parsons.

Johnny honorably served in the U.S. Army, 173rd Airborne Brigade, in the Vietnam War. He loved God and his country. He worked as a surveyor alongside his beloved wife, Darlene. His keen memory and love for music was something that John shared with others throughout his life. Darlene and John made Carteret County their home for the past 31 years with much of that time spent on the beach and fishing when not working.

Surviving is his loving and most cherished wife of 39 years, Darlene Capps Johnson of Peletier, NC; daughter, Letitia “Tish” Johnson Grey of Arizona; son, John Anthony Johnson of Smithfield, NC; sisters, Rebecca Lynn Johnson of Goldsboro, NC, Barbara Johnson Parsons of Morehead City, NC and Phyllis Johnson Barbour and husband DeVan of Pine Knoll Shores, NC; granddaughters, Olivia Grey of Arizona and Layla Johnson of Smithfield, NC; mother-in-law, Anna  Hudson of Erwin, NC; brothers and sisters-in-law; and nephew, Kevin Douglas Parsons and wife Samantha of Charlotte, NC.

The family will have a private service at a later date. Memorials may be made to a VFW Post of your choice.
