Obituary

John Robert "Bob" Stallings Sr., 89, of Morehead City, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 14, 2026, at Crystal Bluffs Rehabilitation and Health Care Center.

Bob was born on July 17, 1936, in Goldsboro, NC to James William Stallings and Elizabeth Davis Stallings. His family moved to New Bern, NC when Bob was around middle school age where he met Barbara Edwards. She quickly fell in love with him when they were 14 and they married four years later and had five children together. Bob and Barbara moved their family to Morehead City in 1964 after he and his father developed a love of fishing, specifically on The Iron Steamer Pier. A few years later, his parents also relocated to Morehead from Clinton, NC and ran the Bus Station for several years.

Bob was athletic and artistic and seemed to ace everything he attempted. In high school he played basketball and baseball, then took up bowling and pool, hunting and fishing and was quite the carpenter. He could fix anything! He also became an accomplished golfer, probably his favorite sport of all. He became a barber in 1958 and continued in that career for 58 years.

In later years Bob came to believe in and trust in God. Most recently, along with daily reading his Bible, he became an avid reader of Christian authors like Dr. David Jeremiah and John MacArthur. He was incredibly interested in Revelation and Heaven. Bob is now experiencing true love, forgiveness, joy and peace which will never end.

He is survived by his daughters, Lisa Brown (Elmer) and Terri Stallings; as well as five grandchildren, Heather, Ryan, Justin, Brad and Holly; seven great grandchildren, Kameron, Harper, Harvey, Sammy, Teagan, Brodie and Beau; and a niece, Susan.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Betty; his wife, Barbara; sons, Bob, Tim, and Todd; and granddaughter Jessica Strama.

Service details will be shared once finalized.

The family would like to thank the staff at Carteret House and Crystal Bluffs for their love and support and excellent care they gave Bob.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Baptist Church of Morehead City, Crystal Bluffs or Carteret House of Newport.
