John “Jack” Stephen Rector, 90, of Newport, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, at Carteret Health Care.

Born on December 10, 1935, in Hartford, Connecticut, Jack was the son of the late Irving Henry Rector and Thelma Violetta Tabor Rector. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy, stationed in Winter Harbor, Maine, from 1958 until 1960. Following his military service, Jack earned his Bachelor of Science degree in psychology and went on to build a life filled with hard work, friendships, and many different experiences.

Over the years, Jack held a variety of jobs, including managing a Convenient Food Mart grocery store. He later owned and operated his own commercial cleaning business, which he ran for many years. Jack was a man who embraced life and found joy in the people and experiences that came his way.

Jack was a loving husband, father, son, brother, uncle, and friend. He had a bright spirit and a genuine appreciation for life, enjoying every moment and leaving a lasting impression on those fortunate enough to know him. His kindness, friendship, and unmistakable light will continue to live on in the hearts of those who loved him.

Those remaining to cherish Jack’s memory are his daughter, Lori Bowe; wife, Karen Rector; nephew, Bruce Condemi, with whom Jack shared a particularly close bond; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Jack had a great group of friends who he played pool with including, Jack Travers, Eddy Colonlopez, and Wes Hori. He was also blessed with many dear friends including, Ken and Pam Thomas and their family, Jean Mabe and family, Lori Stevens, Chuck Coppa and family, Jeff and Cheryl Sarchet, and Winnie Clarke, whom Jack considered a true godsend.

In addition to his parents, Jack was preceded in death by his daughter, Carol Ann Sammons; and his siblings, Carol, Ruth, Oren, Tom, Charlie, and Bob.
