Major John C. Deibert III, USMC, Retired,

Major John “Johnny” Charles Deibert III, USMC, Retired, 89, of Morehead City, North Carolina, passed away on Thursday, July 17, 2025, at the Crystal Coast Hospice House.

A graveside service, with military honors, will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, July 22nd at Gethsemane Memorial Park, officiated by Pastor Bill Klear.

Born on September 8, 1935, in Prince William County, Virginia, Johnny was the son of the late John Charles Deibert and Thelma Cathryne Deibert. From an early age, he exhibited remarkable ingenuity and determination, establishing himself as a self-made man who faced challenges with resilience and strength.

Impacted at the young age of 6, Johnny was living on the Pearl Harbor U.S. Naval Base when Japan made their devasting attacked in 1941. Understanding duty to country, soon after high school at just 18 years old, Johnny enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He distinguished himself as a Naval Aviator, serving with valor as a helicopter gunship pilot during the Vietnam War. After two decades of dedicated service, he retired with the rank of Major, having made significant contributions to his country.

After his military career, Johnny was the proud owner of Master Craft in Newport, where he consistently showcased his hard work and dedication.

A strong advocate for firearm ownership, Johnny was recognized for being the first individual in Carteret County to obtain a concealed carry permit and became the county’s first concealed carry instructor.

Johnny will be fondly remembered by his family as a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. His legacy of service, strength, and love will continue to inspire those who knew him.

Those remaining to cherish his memory are his son, John “Tony” Deibert of Newport, NC; sister, Dianna “Cookie” Willis of Emerald Isle, NC; brother, Harold Deibert, Glenn Deibert (Janette) of Fayetteville, NC; 5 granddaughters; 7 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Johnny was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 63 years, Bonita "Bonnie" Fish Deibert; daughter, Diane Deibert Postma; and brothers, Harold Deibert, Daryl Deibert, and Lynn Deibert.
