John Burns, 54, of Newport, North Carolina, passed away peacefully in the arms of his wife on Thursday, August 27, 2026, at the Crystal Coast Hospice House.

There will be a gathering of family and friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., Wednesday, September 2, at Munden Funeral Home. A celebration of John's life will be held at a later date.

John was born on July 31, 1972, in Morehead City, North Carolina. He spent his career in roofing and was the proud owner and operator of Burns Roofing, a business he ran for more than 25 years. He was a hardworking man who took great pride in his work and the quality of what he built.

When he wasn't working, John enjoyed spending time outdoors, especially working in the yard, gardening, and fishing. He also cherished the time he spent with his family and friends.

Those remaining to cherish John's memory are his loving wife, Cristie Burns; children, Autumn, Jordan, Matthew, Cristian, and JR; mother, Mary Russell; sister, Mary Murray; brother, Gilbert Burns and wife Shannon; mother-in-law, Betty Carraway; grandchildren, Kayden, Layla, Rylee, Romen, and Neiko; and numerous friends whom he valued.

John was preceded in death by his father, John Burns Sr.; sister, Carmen Burns; and father-in-law, Rick Carraway.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of John to a charity of one's choice.
