John P. Burke

John P. Burke, 71, of Newport, NC, passed away at his home on Sunday, December 22, 2024.

A celebration of John’s life will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, January 18th at Munden Funeral Home, officiated by Rev. Johnny Thompson. He will be laid to rest privately at Arlington National Cemetery.

John was born on December 24, 1952, in Rahway, New Jersey, to the late Paul and Anne Burke. After completing high school, John honorably served his country in the United States Marine Corps.

Following his military service, John dedicated nine years of his career to working at RD1, where he enjoyed his role collecting rent for the company. His skill and expertise with heavy equipment were invaluable on numerous construction sites, a line of work he greatly enjoyed.

John was an enthusiastic outdoorsman, enjoying the excitement of hunting and the challenge of fishing. He had a passion for fireworks, eagerly anticipating the 4th of July each year. His enthusiasm for this special day brought joy not only to himself but also to those around him. Those who knew him will remember his love for Luigi’s pizza and his most favorite snack, chocolate chip cookies.

Throughout his life, John cherished his friendships, considering his friends as close as family. He valued the time spent with them which meant the world to him.

Those remaining to cherish his memory are his daughter, Shana Gieza and Family of New Jersey; and close friends the Fowler family of Morehead City, NC.
