Jimmie “JD” Phillips, 66, of Newport, North Carolina, passed away on Saturday, August 22, 2026, at Carolina East Medical Center.

Jimmie, known to family and friends as JD was born on July 8, 1960, in Havelock, North Carolina, at Cherry Point, to the late Willie and Bertha Phillips Barnes.

JD was a beloved man who never shied away from a hard day’s work. He was generous, kindhearted, and had an incredible sense of humor. He was the kind of person everyone loved and someone who you could always count on to lend a helping hand whenever needed.

JD loved spending time with his family and friends, who meant the world to him. He enjoyed playing horseshoes, poker and darts, and he especially loved fishing. Although he may not have been the best cook, JD enjoyed cooking and preparing meals for his family and friends. He loved sharing good food, good times, and laughter with the people he cared about most.

Those remaining to cherish his memory are his daughter, Michaela Baatz of Newport, NC; son, Jordan Phillips of Newport, NC; sisters, Sharon Murray of Newport, NC, Beverly Phillips of Newport, NC, and Donna Barnes of Newport, NC; brothers, Jerry Phillips of Tennessee, Stuart Phillips of Mississippi, and Steve Barnes of Newport, NC; and several nieces and nephews.
