Jennifer Jo Stancil Stephenson, 71, of Atlantic Beach, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, at Carteret Health Care.
A memorial service to honor Jennifer’s life will be held at 3 p.m., Friday, June 19th, at First Baptist Church in Morehead City.
Jennifer was born on October 15, 1954, in Wilson, North Carolina, to the late William and Josephine Stancil. She dedicated her career to serving others as a registered nurse, a profession that reflected her compassionate heart and caring spirit.
A woman of deep and unwavering faith, Jennifer wore her faith on her sleeve, living her beliefs openly and joyfully. Her kindness touched countless lives, and she was known for always putting the needs of others before her own.
Jennifer embraced life with enthusiasm and energy. She enjoyed bicycling, loved dancing, and was especially proud of her involvement in the shag dancing community as a member of the Atlantic Beach Shaggers Hall of Fame. Jennifer also enjoyed thrift shopping, always eager to uncover a hidden treasure or find a great bargain.
Above all else, Jennifer cherished her family. Her greatest joy came from being "Mema," and her grandchildren were truly the center of her world.
Those remaining to cherish her memory are her loving husband of 49 years, Marvin Ray Stephenson; daughter, Ally Stephenson and her wife Amber of Knightdale, NC; grandchildren, Blake Elinor Stephenson and Barrett Ray Stephenson of Knightdale, NC; sister, Jeannie Wright of Middlesex, NC; brother, Jerry Stancil and wife Sheila of Beaufort, NC; numerous nieces and nephews; and fur baby Petey.
In addition to her parents, Jennifer was preceded in death by her brother, Michael Fletcher “Buster” Stancil.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the General Fund at First Baptist Church, 810 Bridges Street, Morehead City, NC 28557.
