Morehead City

James Ronald “Ron” Wolfe passed away on December 23rd at the Crystal Coast Hospice House in Newport, NC with his family by his side.

He was born a South Carolinian in 1931, the youngest son in a large and loving family. He held fond memories of his boyhood in Rock Hill, SC, and of summer vacations at his parent’s beach house in Myrtle Beach. In 1958, he graduated from Presbyterian College in Clinton, SC with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. Like his three older brothers, he honored his country by serving in the United States Army. His son, Greg, would later continue this family tradition by serving in the United States Marine Corps. In 1962, Ron joined the Personnel Department of NC Department of Transportation in Raleigh. His career spanned over 30 years, and he retired in 1994 as the Department’s Manager of Employee Relations.

Ron’s life was filled with many blessings. As a young father to his sons, Greg and Bruce, he served as the Assistant Scoutmaster for their troop #376. He was especially proud when his youngest son, Bruce, attained the rank of Eagle Scout. Like his mother, Ron enjoyed gardening. During the time he and his wife, Debbie, lived in Fearrington Village, NC his garden was featured on the spring garden tour. He and Deb were devoted to the arts and seldom missed a performance of the NC Symphony or the Carolina Playmakers. The Wolfes were volunteers and avid supporters of the WCPE Classical Radio station. The couple’s family also included two wonderful dogs: a Tibetan mountain dog named “Tibbie” and “Rajah”, a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.

Above all else, Ron was privileged to serve God, first as a member of the Vestry at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Wake Forest, NC and later as an Elder on the Session of First Presbyterian Church in Morehead City. Along with other Presbyterian men, he volunteered at Hope Mission on Wednesday mornings.

Ron is survived by his wife of 41 years, Debbie, and by his two sons: Greg of Raleigh, NC and Bruce of Greensboro, NC. He is also survived by a sister, Sue Cothran and husband Joe of Lynn Haven, FL, a sister-in-law, Becky Hollis Wolfe of Peachtree City, GA, and many nieces, nephews, and their families. He was predeceased by his parents, Geneva and Oscar Wolfe, his brothers: Graham, Bob, and Jack, and sister-in-law, Janice Wolfe.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Cas Cader and his staff for years of exceptional care and compassion. Ron’s family will celebrate his life privately and with heartfelt gratitude for a beloved husband, father, brother, and uncle. He will be interred in the columbarium at First Presbyterian Church in Morehead City, NC.

Those wishing to honor Ron’s memory may contribute to Boy Scouts of America, PO Box 152079, Irving ,TX 75015-2079, by donating to a local Boy Scouts Council, or with remembrances to First Presbyterian Church (General Fund), 1604 Arendell Street, Morehead City, NC 28557.
