James Lee Pittman, 81, of Newport, passed away peacefully on July 24, 2025, at Carteret Health Care.
A graveside service to honor James’s life will be held 10am on Thursday, July 31, 2025 at Gethsemane Memorial Park with military honors.
James was born on March 13, 1944, in Morehead City, North Carolina, to the late Jimmie and Vida Pittman. A proud veteran of the Navy, James served his country with honor, bringing a sense of pride to his family and friends. James dedicated over 50 years of his life to the art of outboard motor repair. His hands, skilled and steady, brought countless boats back to life, which led to his love of model airplanes, Mopar Cars, the louder the better, and anything with an engine He earned the respect and gratitude of many for his unwavering commitment to his craft. Those left to cherish his memory, his sons, James Pittman and wife Tammy of Newport and John “Frankie” Pittman and wife Cindy of Morehead City; sister, Annie Davis of Jacksonville; grandchildren, Ryan Pittman, Chris MacQueen, Kelli Pittman, and Hank Pittman; and eight great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, and his sister, Linda Kay Mitchell.
