Gethsemane Memorial Park
Starts at 11:00 am (Eastern time)
James “J.R.” Ralph Tyner, 82, of Kenansville, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 10, 2026, at his home.
A graveside service to honor J.R.’s life will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, May 13 at Gethsemane Memorial Park, officiated by Pastor Jeff Dail.
J.R. was born on August 12, 1943, in Goldsboro, North Carolina, to the late Ralph and Roxie Tyner. He spent his life doing the things he loved most - spending time outdoors, caring for his family, and creating lasting memories with those closest to him. J.R. enjoyed fishing and hunting and could often be found on the water or in the woods enjoying nature with his grandson “Lukeman”.
One of his greatest joys was spending quality time with his grandson who was the apple of his eye. J.R. was dedicated to poultry farming, raising both chickens and turkeys for many years. He took great pride in everything he did. J.R. will be remembered for his strong work ethic, dependability, and willingness to help others whenever needed. His presence will be deeply missed but forever cherished by all who loved him.
Those remaining to cherish his memory are his daughter, Patricia Quinn and husband Gerald Haywood of Kenansville, N.C.; grandson, Gerald “Lukeman” Quinn III and his wife Madison Quinn of Advance, N.C.; sister, Patricia Lewis of Morehead City; special friend, Lynda Brown, and Arvest Williams who loved him like a brother.
In addition to his parents, J.R. was preceded in death by his wife, Sue Tyner; sisters, Janie Tyner Abbott, Nettie Bennett; brothers, Grover and Donald Ray Tyner.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to “Outreach” Mount Olive, First Pentecostal Holiness Church, 130 Ed Edmundson Road, Mount Olive, N.C. 28365.
The Quinn family extends a special note of deepest appreciation to Andrea Lamb’s “Lamb Loving Angels” for their exemplary care, love, and devotion and deepest appreciation to ECU Home Health and Hospice.
