GySgt. James Randall Frabutt (USMC Retired), 74, of Newport, North Carolina, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, October 9, 2025.
A gathering of family and friends to honor James’ life will take place from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m., Saturday, October 18th at Munden Funeral Home.
Born on July 6, 1951, in Ashtabula, Ohio, James was the beloved son of the late Dominic and Betty M. Frabutt. He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps, where he demonstrated unwavering dedication and resilience. James had a fulfilling career in Civil Service and retired from the Pedro Program at Fleet Readiness Center East, where he worked as a crew chief and rescue swimmer. The HH-46 Sea Knight helicopter, affectionately known as "Pedro," was unique across the Marine Corps with its primary mission of Search and Rescue, during which they conducted numerous life-saving operations.
James enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, especially riding his motorcycle and exploring the open road. His generous spirit was evident in his commitment to helping others. James devoted a significant amount of time to Alcoholics Anonymous, where no matter the day or time, he offered support and encouragement to individuals seeking guidance. Celebrating 29 years of sobriety himself, James passionately dedicated himself to helping others on their path to recovery.
James will be remembered fondly as a loving husband, an amazing father, and a proud grandfather and great-grandfather. His kindness, strength, and dedication to his family and community will leave a lasting impact on those who knew him.
