James Preston Cutler Sr., 69, of Sebring, Florida passed away on Friday, May 2, 2025, at Carteret Health Care in Morehead City, North Carolina.
The family will have a celebration of James’ life at a later date.
Born on May 14, 1955, in Washington, DC, James was the son of the late Calvin Cutler and Priscilla Whipple. He demonstrated a passion for technology from an early age, pursuing a successful career as a computer developer and ultimately becoming a founding partner of Coviant Software Company.
James was not only dedicated to his professional pursuits; he was also actively engaged in his community as a political activist, advocating for causes he believed in, including protests at the Seabrook Nuclear Powerplant in New Hampshire.
Sailing was one of James' great passions. He undertook remarkable journeys, including a solo trip from St. Augustine, Florida, to Cutler, Maine, along the eastern seaboard. His appreciation for energy technology and anything to do with solar energy, led him to retrofit his sailboat from gas to electric.
Adventurous by nature, James enjoyed taking his family on memorable winter mountaineering trips to Mt. Washington in New Hampshire and throughout the years he and his sons had numerous memorable trips together.
Above all, James will be remembered as a loving father and grandfather, who had a profound impact on the lives of his family.
Those remaining to cherish his memory are his sons, Christopher Ryan Cutler (Danielle) of Spofford, NH, Daniel Calvin Cutler (Lish) of Hibbing, MN, and James Preston Cutler Jr. (Kathleen) of St. Augustine, FL; sister, Priscilla Liddle (Hugh) of Sebring, FL and Ellen Cutler of Boston, MA; brother, Timothy Cutler (Jane) of Concord, MA; and grandchildren, Olivia Cutler, Calvin Cutler, Elwyn Cutler, and Iris Cutler.
In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his stepfather, Charlie Whipple.
