Atlantic Beach

Ida "Dolly" Holcomb, 87, of Atlantic Beach, North Carolina, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Tuesday, November 28, 2023, at her home, with her daughter at her side. God called her to her heavenly home.

The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m., Saturday, December 2nd at the family home. A celebration of Dolly’s life will take place in her home state of Pennsylvania at a later date.

Ida, lovingly known as Dolly, was born on June 5, 1936, in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, to the late Antonio and Amable Casagrande. She lived a vibrant and fulfilling life filled with love, laughter, and a zest for adventure.

While living in Pennsylvania, Dolly was a hairdresser and proud owner of her own beauty salon. Whether she was listening to her clients' stories, offering them guidance, or simply styling their hair, Dolly’s salon was a place of warmth and happiness for many.

After discovering the beauty of North Carolina in the 1970s, she instantly fell in love with its charm and made it her second home. Putting down stakes in Salter Path, Dolly's love for the ocean and the outdoors led her to embark on a new journey as a fisherwoman. Starting off with her first job at the Indian Beach Pier, she honed her skills and soon found herself at "Fishen Fever". Dolly was a first mate and later became the proud owner of "Freeman's Bait and Tackle," a testament to her entrepreneurial spirit and love for the sea.

Throughout her life, Dolly embraced every opportunity to share her joyous spirit with others. She never met a stranger, always extending a kind word or a helping hand to those in need. Her compassionate nature and magnetic personality touched the lives of many, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of all who knew her.

Those remaining to cherish her memory are her devoted daughter, Marita Greene of Atlantic Beach, NC and Roberta Bebout and husband Rick of Florida; grandchildren, Carly Roerick and husband Jeremy of Texas and Joshua Ward and wife Nancy of Florida; great-grandchildren, Colten Lee, and Kiara Lynn; along with several nieces, nephews and extended family that loved her dearly and she loved as her very own.

In addition to her parents, Dolly was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred “Smith” Holcomb; her loving sisters and brothers-in-law, Vera and Ken Benson, Ines Milan, and Mary and John Zalick; and her brother and sister-in-law, Tony and Naomi Casagrande.

As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made payable to the Atlantic Beach Fire Department, for the “Ladies Division, King Mackerel Tournament”, 125 Fort Macon Rd., Atlantic Beach, NC 28512.
