Howard Edward Lynk Jr.

August 2, 1949 — August 30, 2025

Morehead City

With deepest sorrow, yet with gratitude for a life so richly lived, we announce the passing of Howard Edward Lynk Jr., 76, of Morehead City, North Carolina.

Born in Syracuse, New York, Howard displayed a curious and inquisitive mind from an early age. With brilliance and determination, he carried an intrinsic desire to understand how things work — a spark that shaped his life’s path. That same drive and attention to detail led him through careers in Project Management, Engineering and Computing Technologies, culminating as owner of Computer Support Service, where he became a trusted information technology specialist and problem-solver. Yet his spirit shone brightest beyond work — riding the wind and waves. A lifelong surfer, waterman and catamaran sailor, his adventures spanned places of tropical paradise like Oahu and Molokai, Hawaii, and eventually back to his roots on the sandy beaches of the North Carolina Crystal Coast.

That same curiosity for understanding drew him into new worlds in later years, where Howard refocused his gaze to the vastness of the macro universe above and the hidden universe within the micro all around us. His passion for microscopy, Antique & Victorian slides, and photomicrography earned him repute and professional respect among international colleagues. His images — luminous windows into the unseen — live on in textbooks, installments of ‘The Quekett Journal of Microscopy’ and, most notably, in the National Geographic publication ‘Cosmos’ by Ann Druyan, where one of his diatom photomicrographs fills a page with splendid brilliance.

Howard was, above all, a man of heart — a sturdy presence, a generous soul, and a source of steady guidance and light for his family and friends. His life was a constellation of love and adventure, and though he has sailed beyond the horizon, his spirit remains with all who knew him.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Donna Marie; his sons, Noah Michael Lynk and his wife, Deena, and Sean Kelley Lynk and his wife, Lianda; his grandchildren, Tanner Michael Lynk, Ethan Bryant Lynk, Kirra Marie Lynk, and Makena Kelley Lynk; his great-grandchildren, Annie Bryant Lynk and Larson Kennedy Lynk; and his sister, Patricia Bernich.

Howard was preceded in death by his parents, Howard Edward Lynk Sr. and Phyllis Kelley Lynk.

In lieu of flowers, the family invites contributions to Carteret Health Care Home Health, 3722 Bridges Street, Suite 201, Morehead City, NC 28557, honoring his compassion and carrying forward the kindness that defined his days.
