Howard Oliver Hunter, 95, of Harborview Towers, formerly of Pine Knoll Shores and Allison Park, PA, died Tuesday, September 8, 2009, at Carteret General Hospital.

Mr. Hunter was born July 29, 1914, to the late Oliver E.C. Hunter and Louisa L. Hunter. He was raised in Etna Borough, adjoining Pittsburgh, PA and was a graduate of Etna High School. He was employed in defense construction during WWII and following the war , was employed for Ditto, Inc. and it's successor, Bell and Howell, for almost 40 years.

He served as a Board Member and President of the Hampton Township School Board during the 1950's and 60's. He was an Elder at both the Calvert Memorial United Presbyterian Church and the Parkwood Presbyterian Church in Pittsburgh. He also was a member of the Lion's Club and Masonic Ocean Lodge 405 and Sudan Shriners.

His memorial service will be held 10:00 am Saturday, September 12th at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Timothy Havlicek officiating.

He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Grace Dombaugh Hunter; sons, James O. Hunter and wife Betty of Pine Knoll Shores and Robert H. Hunnter and wife Pam of Chatham, VA; three grandchildren, Stacey Caroline Hecht, Amy Grace Zugell and Lori Oakes; three great grandchildren, Caroline Grace Zugell, Thomas Daniel Zugell and Rosalind Hecht and one sister, Mabel L. Brest of Cottonwood, AZ.

The family will receive friends following the service at Westminster Hall, where light refreshments will be served.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 1604 Arendell St., Morehead City, NC, 28557.
