Homer Keith Russell Sr., 87, of Wildwood, North Carolina, passed away on Monday, March 9, 2026, at ECU Health Medical Center.

A funeral service to honor Homer's life will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, March 13th at Wildwood Presbyterian Church, officiated by Rev. Robbie Phillips. Interment will follow at Gethsemane Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Homer was born on August 16, 1938, in Carteret County, NC, to the late Daniel and Lala Russell. He was raised on a farm in the township of Ocean where he grew up learning the value of faith, family, and hard work-values that guided him throughout his life.

Homer proudly served his country for six years in the United States Army. After returning home, he worked for the Forest service and then began a long and fulfilling career in construction. He was a man who valued hard work and craftsmanship.

Homer met the love of his life Ada and they settled down in Wildwood, a community they both loved. He loved the Lord and was a faithful and devoted member of Wildwood Presbyterian Church. Over the years, he served his church family as both a deacon and an elder, always willing to lend a helping hand and offer quiet guidance to those around him.

As a man who enjoyed working with his hands, Homer could often be found outside tending to his yard or in his workshop doing special wood working projects. Whether it was fixing, building, or simply keeping things in good order, he took pride in the work he did and the care he gave to his home.

More than anything, Homer loved being with his family who meant the world to him. His life was a testament to faith, dedication, and the quiet strength of a man who lived simply, loved deeply, and left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.

Those remaining to cherish his memory are his daughter, Melissa Russell Mizell (Jeff) of Wildwood, NC; son, H. Keith Russell Jr. (Bonnie) of Ellerbe, NC; sisters, Linda Smith of Crab Point, NC, Blinnie Mason of Bogue, NC and Kathy Russell of Casar, NC; grandchildren, Daniel Russell, Noah Russell, Elijah Mizell and Jacob Mizell.

In addition to his parents, Homer was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Ada Laura Murdoch Russell; brothers, Ralph Russell and Danny Russell; sisters, Inez Bennett, Arnette Riggs, Dora Lee Morton, Velna Lewis, and Connie Russell.
