Helen Louise Williamson Beacham, 88, of Gloucester, North Carolina, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, October 25, 2025, surrounded by her loving family and friends.
A funeral service to honor Helen’s life will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, October 29th at Free Grace Wesleyan Church on Harkers Island, officiated by Rev. Clinton Nelson. Interment will follow at Styron Creek Cemetery in Sea Level. The family will receive friends the evening prior from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., Tuesday, October 28th at Munden Funeral Home. Born on June 25, 1937, in Beaufort, NC, Helen was the daughter of the late Preston and Nina Styron. A former longtime resident of Sea Level, she dedicated herself to caring for others as a licensed practical nurse at the Sea Level Hospital, where her compassion and skills greatly impacted numerous families. Additionally, Helen worked part-time at the Core Sound Waterfowl Museum on Harkers Island, sharing her knowledge and warmth with visitors.
Helen loved the Lord and was a devoted member of Free Grace Wesleyan Church. The Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 128 was also very important to Helen. As a dedicated member, she embraced their mission of charity, truth, and kindness. Helen had the honor of serving as Worthy Matron, showing her commitment to uplifting her community.
A woman of many talents, Helen expressed her creativity through sewing and crafting beautiful quilts. She generously shared her quilts with loved ones as well as donating them for local fundraising efforts. Helen loved working with flowers, always in awe of their beauty and the happiness they brought to others. She appreciated harvest time, taking great pleasure in canning her favorite fruits and vegetables. Nothing gave her greater pleasure than bringing her family together around the table for delicious home-cooked meal and quality fellowship.
Helen will be lovingly remembered as a devoted wife, wonderful mother, and a cherished “Nana” and “Nannie” to her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Her legacy of love, kindness, and service will continue to inspire those who knew her.
Those remaining to cherish her memory are her children, Cathy Guthrie (Delmas) of Burlington, NC, Teana Tosto (Eddie) and Thomas “Tommy” Beacham, all of Gloucester; and her grandchildren, Karla Flood (David), Holly Lawrence (Stevie), Emilee Beamus, Casey Tosto (Lauren), Olivia Lewis (Charlie), and Alison Beacham.
Helen was blessed with her great-grandchildren, Alexandria Goodwin, Michaela Lupton, Audrey Cahoon, Jenna Rose, Nova Rose, Preston Lawrence, Jackson Lawrence, Jordan Moder, Jayden Johnson, Xaiveon Beamus, Destynee Beamus, Iyonna Beamus, Maximus Beamus, Abigail Tosto, Mia Tosto, Rylee Kate Tosto, Noah Guthrie, Anastasia Lewis, Charlie Lewis, and Selena Lewis; great-great-grandchildren, Jonathan Quiterio, Andrè Lopez Goodwin, Liam Mitchell, Leonidas Mitchell, Esmiella Mitchell, and Finn Rose; and her “baby”, her dog, Emi.
In addition to her parents, Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Durwood Neal Beacham and great-great granddaughters, Tatianna Quiterio-Goodwin and Maya Lopez-Goodwin.
