Heidi Dale, 67, of Emerald Isle, North Carolina, passed away on December 13, 2023, at her home.
A funeral service to honor Heidi’s life will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, December 18th at Munden Funeral Home. A reception will be held immediately following the service. The family will receive friends the evening prior from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., Sunday, December 17th at Munden Funeral Home.
Born on February 14, 1956, Heidi was the daughter of the late Oscar and Virginia Dale. Growing up in Virginia, Heidi graduated from T.C. Williams High School in Alexandria with the Class of 1974. Heidi's passion for making a positive impact on the lives of others led her to pursue a bachelor’s degree in social work from James Madison University in Virginia. With a strong foundation of knowledge and a deep sense of purpose, she joined the Department of Social Services, dedicating her life’s work to improving the well-being of children and families in need.
Heidi will be forever remembered for her selflessness and compassion. Her relentless pursuit of finding the good in everyone was a testament to her character and served as an inspiration to all who had the privilege of crossing paths with her. Her unwavering dedication to helping others was also seen through her involvement with Alcoholics Anonymous, where she not only found the strength to maintain her own sobriety but also tirelessly supported others in their journey to recovery.
Heidi's love for the beach was evident to all who knew her. Whether strolling along the shore, feeling the gentle breeze, or simply soaking in the sun, Heidi’s happy place was near the ocean. She loved her sweets, and you could guarantee that M&M’s would bring a smile to her face. In her free time, she was happy getting lost in the pages of a good book, immersing herself in captivating tales that fueled her imagination. Heidi loved spending time with her special group of lady friends from Emerald Isle.
It’s easily said though, that Heidi's greatest joy in life was her role as mother and a doting grandmother. She shared a deep bond with her grandchildren, creating lasting and fun memories. Riding rollercoasters was one of her favorite adventures with her grandchildren. She had the best time holding onto them tightly as they laughed, screamed, and enjoyed the thrill of the ride. Heidi always made sure to spend special time with each of her grandchildren, great-nieces, and nephews.
Those remaining to cherish her memory are her loving children, Heather Thixton-Grapperhaus and husband TJ of Clayton and Tyler Thixton and fiancé Sareba Moore of Jacksonville; grandchildren, Cayden Thixton, Chase Grapperhaus and Chloe Grapperhaus; special nephew, Monte Sanchez II and wife Tyna of Woodbridge, VA; and great nephew and niece, Monte III and Deidre Sanchez.
In addition to her parents, Heidi was preceded in death by her sister, Deidre Dale; and great niece, Cassie Varfley-Sanchez.
As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to the Emerald Isle Sea Turtle Patrol, 312 West Firetower Rd., Peletier, NC 28584. *Please include email address: heatherecu79@yahoo.com
