Hazel Rogerson Farmer

June 13, 1929 — July 2, 2025

Formerly of Morehead City

Hazel Rogerson Farmer, age 96 of Mountain City, TN, formerly of Morehead City, NC and Aulander, NC, went to her final resting place on July 2, 2025.

A graveside service to celebrate her life will be held at 11:30 a.m., Sunday, July 6, at Gethsemane Memorial Park in Newport, NC, where she will be laid to rest beside her husband. Officiating the service is Rev. Johnny Thompson, and the music will be provided by her special friend Barbara Swigart.

Hazel was the youngest of two daughters born on June 13, 1929, to Oliver Moore Rogerson, and Leona Hall Rogerson of Aulander, NC, where she lived most of her life.

At an early age, Hazel prepared noon meals for her parents, sister, and the farm hands, preferring to be home in the kitchen to working on the farm. She became so great a southern cook, people would be first in line at church dinners for “Ms. Hazel’s fried chicken, homemade biscuits, and desserts.” She passed that love of cooking to her children, even though they are yet to make those biscuits exactly like she could!

On February 6, 1946, she married the one love of her life, Charlie Clinton Farmer, Jr. While making plans for their Golden Wedding Anniversary celebration, Charlie was called home to be with his Lord on January 4, 1996.

Together they worked and raised three children, Phyllis Farmer Griffith (Tony) of Mountain City, TN, Charlie Clinton Farmer, III of Newport, NC, and Kay Farmer Miller (Tommy) of Washington, NC.

Hazel was a Christian who loved the Lord. She was an active member of Oak Grove Baptist Church, Aulander, NC, Parkview Baptist Church, Morehead City, NC, and Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Mountain City, TN. Even impaired with deafness most of her life; not able to hear the sermons, she faithfully attended her Sunday School Classes and Sermons, wanting to be in God’s house with other Christians,

When age and health kept her home, she read the TV captions while watching Dr. Stanley on Sunday mornings and read the Bible through several times during her lifetime.

Hazel worked hard and sacrificed to make certain her children had what they needed for piano recitals, sports, and school functions they were involved in. She was the kind of wife and mother who put her family’s needs above her own. She faithfully prayed daily for each of her family members.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, seven grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and seven great-great grandchildren. Her niece, Betty McMahan Adams (Ike) and their children, and nephew, Brian McMahan, all of Sevierville, TN. Her former son-in-law, Jack Askew, former daughter-in- law, Rebecca Farmer, and special fiend, Connie Gonzales.

She was predeceased by her parents, husband, and sister, Rosa Lee Rogerson McMahan and her husband, Herbert McMahan.
