Dr. Gregory Rice, 74, of Morehead City, North Carolina, went to be with his Lord on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, at the Crystal Coast Hospice House.
A celebration of Greg’s life will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, June 14th at First Baptist Church in Morehead City, with Rev Darrell Williams officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. For those unable to attend, the service can be viewed through his obituary page on Munden Funeral Home’s website. The service will remain on the Funeral Home website for 90 days.
Born on February 28, 1951, in Morehead City, NC, Greg was the son of the late Frankie and Theodore Rice. He was a graduate of West Carteret High School and UNC-Chapel Hill School of Pharmacy. He attended graduate school at UNC and earned a PhD in Medicinal Chemistry and Natural Products. Living in Durham, NC for 40 years, he primarily worked in the pharmaceutical product development industry in analytical laboratories in The Research Triangle Park.
Greg came home to Morehead City often over the years to see his family and to go surfing with his brother Scott. Oh how they loved to surf! Greg retired to his hometown in 2015 where he was actively involved with volunteering. He was on the Board of Directors of the Bev Stone Peer Recovery Center and the Veteran’s Coalition of the Crystal Coast. Greg enjoyed helping people in need in Carteret County. He became a Certified Peer Support Specialist (CPSS) in 2017, and he became a WRAP trainer (Wellness Recovery Action Plan). He was also a member of the NC-DHHS Peer Support Curriculum Workgroup to develop course work and testing for certification in NC.
Greg is survived by his wife of almost 50 years, Teresa Rice; son, Jon Rice (Ashley) of Durham, NC; and grandson, Kingston of Durham, NC. He also had many special cousins, nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Greg was preceded in death by both of his brothers, Scott and Ted Rice.
